In the remote village of Wayanad district, Kerala, PC Musthafa was born into a poor family. His father was a daily wage worker and used to do coolie jobs and his mother was uneducated. Musthafa’s father wanted his children to be educated and thus, he worked hard. However, Musthafa ended up being doing the coolie work at the mere age of 10 years old.

Disheartened by the situation of his family and after failing in the 6th standard, Musthafa decided to continue the coolie work just like his father. However, his middle school teacher stopped him and encouraged him to continue his studies. However, it wasn’t easy to convince him as Musthafa prioritised his responsibilities. But his teacher convinced him and handled his education expenses. Since then, Musthafa aced his classes and grabbed the computer science engineering.

Then he earned a degree in computer science from the National Institute of Technology, Calicut. After completing his education, he also did a job at Motorola with the earning of Rs.15000. Then he also worked in multinational companies in different countries like Ireland and Dubai.

PC Musthafa’s Journey

After leaving his job in the US, Musthafa returned to India with the dream of starting his business venture. Then in India, he sold the batter of Idli to various eateries and other selling outlets to explore his business idea. Then in 2005, he realised the potential of “Ready-to-cook” items in India and decided to establish his business in this field. He aimed to provide “Ready to cook” idli batters that are free from any chemicals and preservatives.

He founded iD Fresh Food with an investment of Rs. 25000 along with his cousins. He started a small kitchen of 50 square feet in Bengaluru’s Tipassandra and toiled hard to make it a big name in the food industry of India. His sheer determination and courage was something that kept him going without giving up.

In 2007, Musthafa became the CEO of iD Food and handled the marketing and finance department. Initially, iD used to prepare 15000 kg of Idli with 5000kg of rice and there was the sale of only 10 packets of Idli batters. Now, the sales of approximately 100 packets have reached different states such as Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Dubai.

Today, the sales of iD’s products have increased up to four times the 15000kg mixture. iD Fresh food turnover was 100 crores in the year, 2015-2016 and it increased to 182 crores in the year 2017-2019. The turnover reached Rs. 350-400 crores in the year, 2019- 2022. Presently, the iD fresh food net worth is Rs.662 Crores.
