Without question, Sudha Murty has won the hearts of millions of people throughout her life. Being a well-known author, Sudha Murthy Books are loved by all. She is an outstanding educator, a philanthropist, and the chairperson of the famous “Infosys” foundation. For all the women in her generation, Sudha Murthy has served as a great inspiration and role model.

Recently at the great Indo-Canadian Gala in Toronto, held by CIF (Canada India Foundation), Sudha Murty was honored as the first woman to win the Global India Award 2023. This year she has also received Sahitya Akademi Bal Sahitya Puraskar for all the marvelous Sudha Murthy Books & Padma Bhushan by the Government of India.

A Life Well Lived: Life Of Sudha Murty

Sudha Murthy was born in a place called Shiggaon in Karnataka, India, on August 19, 1950. Her family was Brahmin, and she grew up with her dad, Dr. R.H. Kulkarni, who was a doctor, and her mom, Vimala Kulkarni. They were educated people, and they always encouraged Sudha to do something special in life.

Her brother, Srinivas Kulkarni, is a renowned scientist. Some of the Sudha Murthy Books containing short stories were inspired by her own life and the time she spent with her grandma. Back in the 1960s, Sudha decided to study engineering, even though people thought it wasn’t a job for women. She did really well in college and got a special award for being a great student.

Later, she decided to study even more and got a higher degree in computer science. Sudha Murthy did so well that she got a gold medal from the leader of Karnataka. Sudha always believed in equal rights for women, and she once wrote a letter to Tata Motors because they only hired men. Because of her letter, they changed their rules, and she became India’s first female engineer to be hired by Tata Motors!

She also helped her husband, Narayana Murthy, start Infosys, which is now one of the most renowned IT companies in India. Sudha Murthy and Narayan Murthy are one of the most loved real-life couples all over India.

She moved to Mumbai and let Narayana use their home as an office while he and his friends started Infosys. She even worked at Infosys to help out. Sudha Murthy is not just a writer and an engineer; she’s also a big part of making Infosys a success!

From Women’s Empowerment To Amazing Book Author

Sudha Murty has always dedicated her life to the welfare of the other people. Her life was filled with social work regarding public hygiene, healthcare, education, women empowerment, art and culture, poor people and much more.

Infosys Foundation is a public charity foundation, Sudha Murty has been a trustee since it was founded in 1996. Through her Foundation, she has built 2,300 Homes in flood-affected communities.
So far, she has established around 70,000 libraries in schools. She is assisting rural areas by constructing 16000 toilets, as well as numerous toilets in Bengaluru.

Sudha Murthy has dealt with natural calamities such as the tsunami in Tamil Nadu and Andaman, the earthquake in Gujarat, and floods in Orissa and Andhra Pradesh. Apart from the life of social work, she has also got her name in golden in the world of books. Sudha is an amazing writer, her books have received widespread recognition, including The Mother I Never Knew, Three Thousand Stitches, The Man from the Egg, and Magic of the Lost Temple. In 2018, she got the Lifetime Achievement Award, and in 2019, she was awarded the Padma Shri, India’s highest civilian honor.

Achievement Throughout Her Life

Inspiring many, Sudha Murty has received many awards for her wonderful work. In 2004, she got the Raja-Lakshmi Award. Then, in 2006, she got the Padma Shri, which is a really important award. She also got the R.K. Narayana’s Award for Literature in the same year. In 2010, the Karnataka Government gave her the Daana Chintamani Attimabbe Award.

In 2011, she got an honorary LL.D degree for her work in promoting legal education in India. In 2013, she and her husband Narayan Murty got the Basava Shree-2013 Award for their good deeds. In 2018, she won the Crossword Book Award. In 2019, IIT Kanpur gave her an Honorary Degree in Science. Then, in 2023, she was honored with the Padma Bhushan by the Indian Government, and she also got the Sahitya Akademi Bal Sahitya Puraskar.
