Vinny Soni, 35, was born in Nadaun in Himachal Pradesh’s Hamirpur region, and now works in the real estate industry in Canada. His purpose for building wealth is to earn a stable passive income so that he can follow his other interests without having any money.

Vinny Soni wishes to return to India and work in the sectors of healthcare and youth development in Himachal Pradesh’s remote regions. Vinny now owns approximately ten properties in Canada, each of which is valued at approximately CAD 6-8 million (or about Rs 30-40 crore).

In August of last year, Vinny Soni launched a real estate web for selling houses, which has already finalized deals worth over Rs 200 crore.

Vinny Soni arrived in Canada in 2009 to pursue a graduate certificate degree in Strategic Relationship Marketing at George Brown College in Toronto and began working in the country after completing the program in 2010.

He began his career as a student intern at UAE Exchange Canada, a foreign exchange company. He began by passing out flyers to passers-by. He later rose through the ranks of the corporation, being in charge of customer support and then the Head of the Online Department.

Between 2010 and 2013, he worked for the company. Vinny worked part-time jobs throughout this time and sold Bell Canada phone connections on a commission basis on weekends.

Vinny Soni’s salary from part-time work went into his savings account. He started at UAE Exchange Canada for CAD 9 per hour, but as he progressed in the company, his annual earnings increased to CAD 25000.
In Vancouver and Calgary, he was assigned to branches that were just breaking even. He turned them into a profit.

In 2013, Vinny Soni left the company and launched an ad agency out of his residence, employing international students as freelancers.

They worked on both above-the-line (ATL) and below-the-line (BTL) advertisements.

Their first few clients included ICICI Bank and State Bank of India (Canada). We did roughly Rs 15 lakh in business in the first year. By 2015, their annual revenue had surpassed CAD 15 lakh (approximately Rs 10 crore).

In 2016, recruiters found him on Linkedin and offered him an offer, which was the turning point in his career.

He agreed to see the individual over dinner when they pressed for an interview, and after departing his startup, he obtained a job with Tech Mahindra.

Vinny Soni Also Worked With Tech Mahindra

Between 2016 to 2021, Vinny Soni held a senior role at Tech Mahindra, where he was in charge of enterprise sales. His time at Tech Mahindra provided him with valuable insight into the company culture.

To expand his business, he realized he needed to learn more and gain a broader perspective. He learned that in his prior firm, he had been undercharging for his services, which was why his business had not developed.

He started depositing his savings in India because he was living comfortably and earning well. He never invested in real estate in Canada during the boom years of 2015-18 since he planned to return to India.

His focus switched to real estate in 2018, and he began to invest in buildings that he could buy with a small down payment from his funds and then rent out.

He now owns roughly ten homes, some of which have appreciated by 50-70 percent, with a 25-30 percent average.

These properties are worth approximately CAD 6-8 million on the open market (or about Rs 30-40 crore). While the buildings have bank loans that must be paid back, he also receives monthly rent on the majority of them.

Houseeo: An Internet Market Place

He launched Houseeo.com, an internet marketplace where real estate agents can offer properties for sale, in August of last year. On the sales, his company receives a brokerage fee of roughly 2-4 percent, with a total value of almost CAD 35 million (or about Rs 200 crore).

They are attempting to create an autonomous sales engine that would allow buyers to navigate through the properties more easily. Vinny wants to automate the entire operation so that he won’t have to stay in Canada and can return to India.

In terms of gross revenue, his target is to reach around CAD 100 million. He also intends to return to India next year, where he intends to work on healthcare and youth development.

He wants to mentor the youth and assist them in pursuing professional courses and finding suitable employment.

He wants to bring regular health check-up initiatives for the elderly and people over 40 years of age to Himachal, particularly in rural villages. I’ll be able to run them better with his passive income.
