During the COVID pandemic lockdown, all the educational institutes were forced to stop offline education. Even today, educational institutions are not running at the full strength. Many EdTech start-ups took advantage of the situation and came up with various online courses for students. The online courses help students to learn new skills from the comfort of their homes.

In 2020, three friends from Kolkata, West Bengal – Shouradeep Chakraborty, Upamanyu Chatterjee, and Mohamed Fazal Mustafa began a start-up named Collegeshala. The three friends are undergraduate students who started the start-up to create a localized learning ecosystem.

Thought Process and Efforts Behind Collegeshala

Shouradeep observed that many students from his batch could not avail of quality teaching due to financial and logistical reasons. The education provided was either too expensive or not up to the mark. He realized that many undergraduate non-technical students were suffering. He discussed his concern with his childhood friend Upamanyu. Both friends approached Fazal. The three conducted market research to check if their idea would work in the real world. They talked to various professors and students to see how they felt about the plan. The results from the market research proved that there was a need for a start-up. Hence, Collegeshala was born.

Catering to The Needs of Students

Fazal focused on building the website and technical aspects of the start-up. The other two focused on getting highly qualified and good professors for the app. The app serves millions of undergraduate students from non-technical backgrounds. The start-up caters to the needs of students from – BBA, BA, BCom, and BSc. One of the professors from Collegeshala, Dr. Ashish Mohan, mentioned, “Affordability, Quality, Convenience, and Accessibility are the four pillars of Collegeshala. I feel blessed to be a part of this family. It feels good to see so many students availing the wonderful educational services and taking a step towards a brighter future.”

The start-up application provides students with study material, live classes, and a syllabus tracker. The pre-written notes help students to study effectively and easily. A student mentioned, “The Collegeshala classes have made my life better. The course is amazing and easy to understand. The professors are dedicated. They explain every topic in-depth and in an easy-to-understand method. I have recommended the app to my other undergraduate non-technical friends as well. Happy to have found this start-up app.”
