IAS Success story

An aspirant is a sucker for an IAS success story. Meet Sreenath K who cleared civil services with the help of his mobile phone and internet. This time it’s an unbelievable tale of Sreenath who not only dreamt of being in the civil services but also came to be one.

Who says phones and the internet are ghouls in today’s world?  While someone would easily opt for downloading and streaming movies with free internet and wifi but Sreenath had other plans in his mind.

Sreenath K, who is a resident of Munnar, worked as a coolie in Ernakulam. Sreenath came from an economically weaker section. He worked as a man carrying luggage and bags for passengers at the train station. What we all popularly call ‘Coolie’.

IAS Success Story of Sreenath K

Sreenath worked tirelessly to support his family financially. As a young man, his life and work were extremely difficult. He tried to strangle himself with a lot of chores because he was born into a middle-class family. He finally landed a job as a luggage Porter in railway stations after passing the physical test. He worked for the company for about five years, and his batch number was 343. This, however, was not the end of an inspiring IAS success story.

The Realization

When he was 27, he became a father and he was blessed with a daughter and realised that the money he was earning was insufficient for his family. He had never wanted his young daughter to suffer in life as a result of his father’s meagre earnings. When he used to introspect about his tiring schedule of the day and night jobs and earning 400-500 rupees per day, he felt depressed and frustrated.

Sreenath, despite his sufferings, enjoyed studying. Sree, on the other hand, did not have the funds to study or purchase textbooks. In January 2016, the government provided free wifi service at Mumbai Central Railway Station. This was the only thing that enabled Sreenath to achieve his goals and pass the exam.

IAS Success story Journey

Sreenath used wifi to hear lectures online while working at the train station. He chose not to spend on textbooks or any other training classes, and wield the opportunity of free wifi to be able to prepare for exams. He had a smartphone, memory card, earphones, and free wifi, and that is all that he needed to achieve his goals. There were times when he used to work overnight in order to compete with work and study. We can call Sreenath a multitasker as well.

When the trains arrived late, Sreenath took up valuable time and used them to scan PDF files and other study materials. And when he had to perform his job duties, he would start the audio lectures with earphones and keep listening to audio notes while working.

Sreenath could not quit his job because of his family circumstances. So he decided to make his job timing a boon for him. He used to earn daily from his job and prepare for the exam without interrupting his work at the train station.

Sreenath passed the written examination of the Kerala Public Service Commission (KPSC). However, Sreenath dreamed of a job that would give him some power to change the course of his village and help him better raise his family’s monthly income.  ‘

Prior to this Sreenath has appeared for the UPSC test three times before cracking it. He always worked hard and believed in himself.

When he failed the UPSC test for the third time. He said that

“It’s just a matter of hard work and patience. I will continue to give exams.”

Sreenath

We can clearly say that Sreenath is a man who has succeeded in exercising and believing in it. Self-confidence and faith are the only essential elements to success. He refused to give up and tried again with the same dignity and faith.

“Now my dreams cannot be thwarted.”
