The Innovators in India responded in the best way possible which led to many technological innovations during the pandemic.
Technological innovations are the ideas that help in saving human lives and some of these innovations have made people tackle this horrific situation during the pandemic. Some of the innovations emerged from start-ups and some have been incubated by universities. Additionally, the Tier-I institutions of India have also been tying up with governments, start-ups, MNCs and big tech players to accelerate these researches and innovations.
The aim was to build effective devices at affordable prices and many of the innovations became successful in doing so. Here are some technological innovations that saved billions of lives.
COVIRAP
A healthcare product launched by IIT Kharagpur which helps in the rapid diagnosis of COVID-19. The test can be conducted in these portable devices directly from the swab samples and the results can be available in mere 45 minutes. The project was led by researchers Dr. Arindam Mondal, Prof. Suman Chakraborty and their dedicated research team.

Swasa oxyrise bottle
The second wave of COVID-19 left many of us gasping for oxygen. These portable oxygen canisters can be carried easily to meet the need of oxygen in case of an COVID-19 emergency. This device was created by IIT Kanpur Incubation Centre(E-Spin Nanotech and Jasolab). They have a range of face masks and hand sanitizers to fight the COVID-19.

LakshmanRekha
The name finds its meaning in the Indian mythological texts and as the name suggests, it is an AI-driven management system developed by researchers of IIT Mandi for COVID-19 patients in the home quarantine. The mobile application helps in monitoring the COVID-19 patients and also detects the identity of a patient who tries to breach the home quarantine.

RespirAID
To meet the shortage of ventilators in Indian hospitals during the COVID-19 pandemic, this portable breathing support system was developed by Biodesign Innovation Labs. This affordable device is supported by the Department of Biotechnology’s BIRAC and the Department of Science and Technology’s Nidhi Prayas Programme. The support of NITI Ayog, Startup India and Invest India is making the supply of this device possible across India. This device uses a ventilation strategy called Intermittent Positive airway pressure that helps in moderating the essential respiratory parameters which makes it suitable for high-risk lung collapse patients also.

CoronaOven
Working on the principle of “prevention is better than cure” which proves to be most essential in times of COVID-19 pandemic, a Bengaluru-based nanotechnology startup Log 9 Materials launched a product which they called “CoronaOven”. This device helps in disinfecting surfaces from bacteria and viruses. This device uses UV-C light in combination with other significant design parameters and claims to sanitize any surface within 4 minutes. This multi-focal UV disinfection chamber is available in different sizes from 20-litre to 440-litre.
