One book, one pen, one child and one teacher can change the world.
Malala Yousafzai
Buckminster Fuller once said, “Every child is born a genius,” and we all understand exactly every word of it is true. Today, the kids of this generation not only appear to accomplish far more than we did at their age, but they also perceive solutions to problems that we never paid enough attention to.
Kids nowadays are not only driven but are also amazingly aware of their environment, surroundings, and advancing technology. When it comes to exploring the world, children are surprisingly surpassing age and space barriers.
There are many brilliant minds developing in India. We are unveiling some of the most on-point school kids inventions that are both spectacular & need of the hour.
Gitanjali Rao, Portable Water Pollution Checker
Rao was named Time’s best young innovator of 2020 for her ideas and “innovation workshops” she runs around the world, and she was featured on the cover of Time and named the magazine’s first “Kid of the Year” on December 4, 2020. On November 18, 2021, she was named a laureate of the United Nations Millennial Activists Summit in Geneva. And she accomplished all of this by the age of 16. Simply brilliant.
This school kids Invention is extremely useful and uniquely designed. Gitanjali Rao has devised a nanotech sensor-based water analyzer to sense dangerous lead exposure in drinking water. Tethys, her device, identifies lead in water more quickly than anything else in the market today.
Gitanjali believes that her water analysis device, Tethys (named after the Greek Goddess of Freshwater), should be implemented immediately in schools all over the world to prevent young children from drinking lead or other toxic metals-contaminated water.
Haaziq Kazi, A Ship To Clean Plastic From The Ocean
Haaziq Kazi, 12, is well-known for his project – alias ERVIS, which is intended to clean up the waste in the ocean (primarily plastic). Haaziq has been among the youngest TEDx presenters on multiple occasions.
He was widely covered by the media as a young innovator and was dubbed a “child prodigy” by many. Haaziq created ERVIS, a large vessel inside the ocean with various saucers attached to it.
He was moved by a documentary he saw about ocean pollution and plastic waste on the ocean floor, and while cleaning his hands one day, he noticed how the water rushes into the sinkhole.
After observing the flow pattern of the water disappearing into the drain, he realised he could use the same concept to suck waste from our oceans.
And thus was born ERVIS, a futuristic ship with attached saucers capable of 1) cleaning waste matter suspended on the surface of the ocean, 2) analysing the waste accumulated, and 3) stopping waste at the source, preventing it from being disposed of by ships.
This school kids invention is primarily a large boat operated by hydrogen & renewable natural gas, with different compartments & saucers encompassing it.
Remya Jose – A Pedal-Powered Washing Machine
Remya Jose created her first invention at the age of fourteen: the pedal-powered washing machine made from used bicycle parts that can end up making laundry easier for households without electricity.
She came up with the concept when both she and her twin sister were assigned everyday housework after their mother became ill. Instead of washing clothes in the river by hand like the other women in the village, Jose devised her own method that saves both time and effort.
She worked on developing a washing machine that cleans clothes as one pedals them. This was something completely new to the market that was also extremely cool. If one has to name some cool school kids Inventions, Remya and her cycling washing machine has to be in it.
Hemesh Chadalavada, Alzheimer’s Patient Tracker
Hemesh Chadalavada, a 14-year-old from Telangana, created a wristband that tracks Alzheimer’s patients’ movements.
He wished to assist his grandmother, who had been suffering from Alzheimer’s for some time. So, to help her grandmother’s pain, he went the extra mile and created something that can actually help her.
The smart wristband can monitor the patient’s pulse and blood pressure and send a highlighting of the fact to the carer and doctor in the event of an abnormality. The device also includes a GPS, which allows the patient’s carer to receive location updates.
Nikhiya Samsher, Cancer Testing Device
Nikhiya Samsher, an 18-year-old from Bengaluru, created the ‘Quitpuff,’ a device that can detect oral cancer and its stage in 15 minutes. The cancer testing device is priced At rs 38 and will soon be available in a tobacco box, allowing people to learn about their condition. She believes that one of the primary causes of cancer growth and death is a delay in cancer detection.
