Architect Neelam Manjunath has used bamboo, clay, and stone to construct vast cultural sites, homes, and even her own workplace. For many years, she has also advocated for the use of bamboo as a building material in the construction of dwellings. She has various explanations for this, the most important of which is global warming.’

The building sector is one of the most significant contributors to rising pollution & global warming. Bamboo is our go-to material in this case. The use of bamboo would aid in the reduction of pollution & global warming.

Bamboo plants produce 35% more oxygen than any other tree. Bamboo also takes less time to grow than other trees utilised in the building sector.

China is the world’s greatest producer of bamboo, while India is the world’s second-largest producer of bamboo after China. In such a setting, India has a huge chance to use bamboo as a building material. This would be both safer and more environmentally friendly.

Neelam Manjunath, like other architects, was ignorant of the usage of bamboo when she began her career. She stated in an interview that she utilised bamboo for the very first time in 1999.

According to this hero of Women empowerment who is now driven to nature’s good, her customer asked her to utilise Bambo for the construction while she was completing the project at Raj Bhavan in Bangalore. During that assignment, she discovered the use of Bamboo.

Neelam has also been a member of the “National Mission for Bamboo Applications” since then. She is a strong supporter of bamboo use & continues to promote it to her customers and the general public.

The use of bamboo in the building sector would drastically boost its demand. Some would certainly dispute the quick chopping of bamboo trees, which might harm the ecosystem. However, born in a generation which has solutions for everything this child of Women empowerment, Neelam Manjunath has a solution.

Bamboo trees, unlike other trees, develop quickly and mature in less than 30 years, according to her. Farmers can also plant bamboo with ease. Farmers will gain directly from the use of bamboo.

In the traditional building business, large corporations get the majority of the profits. However, using bamboo in the building business will assist farmers directly or indirectly. In such a case, the usage of bamboo in the building sector will enhance job prospects for farmers.

The bamboo building is a long-standing practice. Many nations, including China and Japan, have bamboo dwellings. Neelam Manjunath wishes to mainstream this custom in order to raise demand for bamboo use. This would be a big step forward for our economy and environment. The result of Women empowerment is clearly visible – \\\\women understand nature better, grow better and sustainability better.

Her husband started his own business after we married in 2000, and he helped him with marketing for the first 3 to 4 years. She was simply doing it for fun, but she gave it her best. However, the company experienced serious financial challenges in 2005, causing her to contemplate expanding the company in order to create extra money. Her father, a former principal and chemistry professor, did honorary advising for a few of corporations as a pastime.

When they were low on resources & items to diversify our business, her father gave me a product with the statement, ‘Look this product once they walk on it feels cool and or also it’s protecting dampness,’ thus providing cooling and waterproof solutions, and that was the beginning of Panache Greentech Solutions journey, which started with the name Aesthetic Solutions.

She envisioned her company’s identity as one of energy conservation rather than waterproofing. She learned about the Indian Green Construction Council (IGBC) in 2008, a CI effort that promotes green building and sustainable principles. The late Dr. Prem Jain, the president of the IGBC, motivated her, and she became involved with them. That’s when she decided to solely promote green items her strong spirit & the powers given to her by Women empowerment let her on the right path.

5. Kavitha Rajan

Kavitha’s start-up will supply you with the finest solution to preserve the environment, from single-use plastics to water-soluble plastic. Single-use Plastic waste is swiftly becoming a massive tragedy, and plastic pollution is among the most pressing environmental concerns we face today.

Single-use Plastic bags constitute the most damaging plastic pollution source since they take several years, if not decades, to disintegrate. Furthermore, they represent a significant health danger since they emit harmful chemicals into the atmosphere and degrade in sunlight, discharging hazardous substances into the soil. Kavitha Rajan & her late father developed GreenPlast as an alternative plastic.

Women Empowerment

Women empowerment is not a one-day achievement more is Women empowerment achieved only by one lady. Women empowerment is a collective achievement and men play a very important role in it. when progressive men work in the right direction they give their vote to Women empowerment and more & more women get a voice to their thought. Similarly, Kavita was empowered by her father.

In the year 2020, Kavitha Rajan & her late father, Veeraswami, founded the Coimbatore-based enterprise GreenPlast. It has created a biodegradable alternative to single-use plastic bags for shopping. Water-soluble bags & pellets are strong and watertight from the start, and they can be easily composted.

In 2013, Kavitha’s father set out to find an alternative to single-use plastic bags. To better understand the market of plastic replacement products, he decided to travel to Japan, Malaysia Germany, Indonesia and China.

Women Empowerment

He discovered a method for making biodegradable everyday organic bags as an alternative to single-use plastic. Nonetheless, he was surprised to discover that the main raw materials utilised to create these bags, biodegradable powders, are not easily available on the market to help preserve the plastic industry.

He realised that the only way to tackle the plastic waste problem was to increase the availability of raw materials manufacturing single-use plastic replacements. He set up a big home laboratory to research how to create water-soluble granules that can be blown onto films and shaped into bags.

In 2016, he became the first person to develop an alternative to throwaway plastic. After extensive research and testing, he was able to build his first research reactor in Coimbatore with a capacity of 125 tonnes per month in late 2020.

Kavith’s GreenPlast bags are a great alternative to plastic shopping bags in the retail business. This can help businesses create a more environmentally friendly and sustainable environment by encouraging consumers to reduce their carbon footprint while making purchases.

Women Empowerment

They are made of non-toxic materials and do not emit dangerous chemical byproducts that contaminate water. Unlike normal Polyethylene (PE) / Polypropylene (PP) bags, Kavitha GreenPlast water-soluble biodegradable bags do not generate microplastics when disintegrated.

Because of its exceptional heat-sealing ability and printability, Kavitha GreenPlast film is suited for use as a packaging material. However, it also has many other advantages, including as good solvent resistance and oxygen barrier efficiency, which are helpful for a wide range of applications and are commonly used as materials for encapsulating agricultural chemicals and medicines.

Kavitha & her father provided an excellent answer to India’s single-use plastic dilemma. Kavita is a hero of Women empowerment shaking hands with sustainability, she has a long-term solution for a very big problem of single-use plastic.

6. Kriti Nahar- Bejo

The fashion industry produces around 53 million metric tons of fibre each year for use in apparel and accessories, 70% of which is abandoned or burned. Only around 1% of the fibre is utilised to make new garments and accessories, wasting millions of dollars in wasted apparel and harming the environment.

Although some firms may claim to adopt sustainable and cruelty-free procedures, is this just marketing or greenwashing? We’ve grown more careful about our purchases as customers, and we’re using the power of our dissatisfaction to support people who make our accessories, clothes, and other things.

We have discovered a creative spouse couple that develops one-of-a-kind vegan leather items; their business is called Bejo, and its name is derived from Bejo’s seed, which was seeded for a guilt-free future, where people don’t have to sacrifice elegance to take a step toward the sustainability.

9. Vidhi Bubna- Diving Grant To Educate People On Underwater Ecosystem

Most of us have never investigated the underwater ecosystem. Vidhi Bubna, a Mumbai resident, wanted to see the sea life. Her first diving excursion, at the age of 23, was tragic. Vidhi expected to see a range of shades underwater, as she’d seen on Nat Geo as well as other travel channels, and yet all she discovered were white corals, implying that they had been bleached to death.

Most people, though, are ignorant of the undersea habitat, marine ecology, and pollution caused by climate change since it is rarely mentioned.

Women Empowerment

Every year, between 300 and 400 million tonnes of poisonous compounds, solvents, toxic sludge, as well as other industrial waste are dumped into the world’s oceans. Coral reefs are also disappearing as a result of warmer seas, pollution, ocean acidification, and overfishing. According to a research conducted by Intergovernmental Science-Policy Forum on Ecosystem and Biodiversity Services, more than 80% of global wastewater is discharged straight into the ecosystem without treatment.

Vidhi is indeed an Ashoka University economics graduate who loves to write on social problems such as women’s rights, minority issues, and the LGBTQ+ community rather than numbers. She is a blooming bud of Women empowerment era.

Vidhi, an experienced hiker and traveller, began scuba diving last year to explore the underwater environment. Her concern at the situation of coral reef destruction prompted her to establish Coral Warriors, a non-profit organisation committed to increasing awareness about undersea ecosystems, marine conservation, and climate change.

After they return, they want the applicants to engage In a climate change project of their choosing, where they will focus on a topic, build communities, and strive to increase awareness and inspire action-oriented programmes.

Nobody understands environmental issues until they see them for themselves, according to her. This Mumbai-based organisation provides India’s first and only diving grant. The Rs 70,000 award pays for a level one scuba diving training in any Indian location of their choosing, including goa Lakshadweep, Puducherry, & the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

Vidhi believes that the selection process is difficult in order to locate people who are passionate about climate change and want to engage in the activism of their choice. So far, four people have received financing, with the organisation planning to send at least 5 persons per year.

During her own diving experience, Vidhi has been spreading awareness about Brazilian Guitarfish, an endangered species present in the Andaman islands, Maldives, and Brazil. She’s started a WhatsApp group comprising public policy professionals, journalists, environmentalists, & marine biologists from all around the world to talk about and brainstorm ways to conserve the species.

Before creating Coral Warriors, Vidhi was providing free online seminars to increase awareness about undersea ecosystems, marine biodiversity, and climate change, and she had reached out to over 5,000 people via them.

A tiny number of people on the organization’s board of directors are supporting the gift. They finance on a regular basis, and one of them is a producer on the Netflix film Chasing Corals.

Women empowerment is all about finding hidden challenges, not many think about water carries with such depth as Vidhi do. she is a brave hero of Women empowerment who is not siding with sustainable and eco-friendly lifestyles & promoting a good cause.

10. Pavithra Rao- Creates Filters For Non-Drinking Water

Pavithra Rao quit the corporate world over a decade ago to help Bengaluru-based company WaterScience progress beyond the zero-to-one stage. Pavithra worked with Philips Lighting for over a decade, rising through the ranks in sales and marketing positions after earning an electronics engineering degree from BITS Pilani and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) at IIM Ahmedabad.

But she left her well-built career to presume something her heart suggested. Women empowerment is a source of power within women, Women empowerment sets a lady free to choose her type of right or wrong and Pavithra chooses her type of right- she chooses sustainability.

women empowerment
Image: WaterScience

For the first time, filtration saves water. When you hear of filtered water, most generally think of RO water purifiers. Every Indian household would be exceedingly cautious about installing a RO purifier as drinking water, but would never consider purifying tap water for daily use. WaterScience also advocates for the use of safe non-drinking water. After all, non-drinking activities such as cleaning, bathing, & washing consume up to 97 % of water in India.

women empowerment
Image: WaterScience

Pavithra’s husband Sudeep Nadukkandy & entrepreneur Mohammad Iqbal created it in 2014 and offers a selection of non-drinking water showering and tap filters. It claims to be India’s first water-saving filter.

A quarter of all sales are generated through retail. Pavithra observes that the water in India is unusually hard due to the presence of particulates such as silt and chlorine used to kill microorganisms, as well as iron, calcium, and magnesium salts. This type of water also leaves white stains on surfaces and faucets. WaterScience cartridges, which must be changed every 6 months, release chemicals that help in hard water softening.

When water travels through the filters’ filtering medium, chemicals produced by the cartridge form a coating so over calcium ions, making water less aggressive. Despite the fact that they remain in water, they aren’t any longer dangerous to you.

women empowerment
Image: WaterScience

The company controls the industry for purifying non-drinking water as an early market entry. In the non-drinking water filtration market, their rivals are stores that import filters made in China rather than things produced in-house.

According to Pavithra, the key distinction is that WaterScience filtration is designed with Indian customers and the quality of water in mind, while Chinese producers develop for Western nations. When imported for use in India, many things do not fare well against the country’s harsh water.

11.Kriti Tula- Doodlage

Kriti Tula, co-founder of Doodlage and an environmentalist, embarks on a quest to promote environmentally friendly fashion. another touch barrier to Women empowerment is not siding with sustainability while being a good savage.

Climate warming is the single greatest health concern confronting humanity, and it is astonishing to see that fashion brands contribute one of the most hazards to the crisis’s development. Consider sewing fabric: a tailor must cut and mark a cloth piece for the clothing, and the excess fabric material ends up in a landfill. Kriti Tula, 33, transforms these “wasted textiles” into usable and fashionable clothes. She creates high-end sustainable fashion, ranging from tablecloths to stationery. Kriti was astounded to learn that more than 73% of discarded textiles end up in landfills, with no one reusing or recycling them.

Every year and over 70 million plants are felled to make plant-based fabric for clothing. Furthermore, 342 ,000,000 oil barrels are used to produce polyester & nylon for clothing.

She founded Doodlage in April 2012 with the goal of reducing the usage of textiles that contributes to climate change risks. Her goal was to upcycle discarded materials into new items of sustainable usable clothing.

She is a Pearl Academy Fashion Designing undergraduate student from Delhi. She later received a scholarship to pursue her Master’s Degree at the London School of Fashion.

She got her first job in India at an export firm, where she learned about the manufacturing line and also how things operated. She then realised she didn’t want to do the production and fashion stuff. She wanted to make a difference in fashion while still being environmentally friendly.

When her company rose to prominence in 2018, she was one of the guests on CNBC TV 18’s ‘Changing India’ show. She shared her ideas and muses & also talked about the role of women and women empowerment in the changing society.

Several worldwide and national magazines have recognised and endorsed her work. It is a motivation to her to continue doing what she began as a hobby to benefit the environment.

Kriti reasoned that few individuals understand the concepts of responsible fashion & sustainability. She asked herself, “How can humans use so many resources that aren’t necessities?”
With so many successful habits, it has been discovered that individuals nowadays readily discard clothing.

With this upcycling idea, she launched an organic business in a responsible and ethical manner and the importance of a sustainable environment.

They began collecting waste textiles from industries around Delhi that had been rejected due to small flaws and post-wastes. Using sustainable fashion will result in a beneficial shift. It paved the way for limited editions, rescuing tonnes of clothing from landfills, down-cycling, and making sustainable clothing.

Doodlage was created in 2012, although she did not begin working full-time with the company until 2018. She had to make and save money as an independent woman in order to invest in the firm.

Anyone who starts a new trend now has an explanation. Kriti did the same for her Doodlage sustainable fashion company.

Kriti comes from a fashion background, where creating and sketching one-of-a-kind fits is the philosophy before accomplishing one’s aims. She is an artist, but she is also a doodler. She combined her creativity with an effective and ecological fashion.

Doodlage indicates that each garment is designed uniquely, just like doodling, where each stroke and thread creates a meaning of art.Her companions on this excursion with Doodlage were Paras Arora & Vaibhav. The brand was started with lofty aspirations and thriving courage. However, there were no discussions regarding the environmental impact of fashion and sustainable clothing wear in 2012.

People wanted something smart with new trends and aesthetics, not caring about how it affected climate change. It wasn’t only about aligning with sustainable fashion, but also about teaching others about it. Of sure, it was challenging.

She handled everything, from talking to clients to persuading merchants to furnish them with material for sustainable clothing. What began as a notion evolved into a full-fledged enterprise with a mission. They have succeeded to sway a few views on this over the years, which is heartwarming and nice as a person and a supplier.

Kriti Tula’s Doodlage is now a major fashion centre that creates new outfits out of the trash and recycled materials and supports the importance of a sustainable fashion label. Not only that, but in addition to being real, they pay attention to the nuances in the designs.

The Doodlage effort alone diverted almost 500kg of fabric from landfills while saving the manufacturing line up to 46 million gallons of water. A single t-shirt requires around 2,700 gallons of water to manufacture, transport, and wash, which is enough for one individual to drink for 300 days.
The designer, 33, must have saved billions of gallons of water. The product packaging is made from recycled and discarded materials to provide sustainable wear.

Doodlage has given the opportunity to many artists, it is also focusing on women empowerment & creative individuals in India and considers their assistance in bringing about social change via sustainable design & making the world a better place to live.

Tulika is a mother but she understands her duties well & worries about so many things, particularly her children.

“As a mom, I try to offer everything for my children, but how can I ensure that my children live healthily when the quantity of plastic we use in our daily lives is destroying the planet?” Or your deeds will cause the next generation to suffer.”

Tulika Suneja was born in Karnal, Haryana, and grew up appreciating the value of living a sustainable lifestyle. Her parents were always concerned with how things were utilised, and her early awareness of nature and the environment kept her tied to her roots. She has been quite meticulous about her interactions with nature since she was a youngster.

Tulika was trying her best; she was living a plastic-free existence and using nature with sanity and sustainability. But she wasn’t pleased; she realised there was more to be accomplished for the coming generation. After several days of struggle, she had a strange notion –

What if people started adopting steel crockery rather than plastic plates and glasses? This would drastically reduce the usage of plastic plates. “We utilize a lot of plastic that we might avoid, but we are just negligent.” We do a lot of good in the of religion, but it comes with unthinkable costs. Every day, the plastic plate we use to give “prasad” and the plastic glasses we use to give “Sharbat” to passers-by add to a massive amount of plastic garbage.

“In the past, our great grandparents would swap silverware from one home to the next based on their necessities.” We continue on using steel crockery at our home, and we may resume the habit of sharing utensils.”

Tulika discussed the concept with several of her pals and invited them to join her in establishing a crockery bank that could lend people steel tableware instead of plastic plates. But no one stepped up to join her; some thought it was too much work for which they didn’t have time, while others excused her by claiming it wouldn’t be secure since various people would constantly coming to their apartment to borrow crockery and they were not happy with guests strolling in.

Tulika was deeply unhappy because she believed she was already losing the battle to minimise single-use plastic glasses and plates. When she was about to give up on this concept, my husband came in as the greatest pillar of support.

He encouraged Tulika to begin this initiative on her own because it was her concept and she is capable of carrying it out on her own. Our Steel Lady only required a little inspiration.Tulika Crockery Bank was established in 2018. Suneja founded her crockery library with the goal of removing single-use plastic cups, plates, forks, and other items off Faridabad’s roadways.

She spent her resources on steel crockery and offered her home to all those who appreciated the cause & joined her.Tulika’s Crookery Bank now makes a significant contribution to environmental protection, as more than 5 million plastic plates have been replaced with the exact copy of steel plates.

Many like-minded people linked with her, and now there are six de-centralized crockery banks located across Faridabad. People from all over the NCR come to Tulika to borrow money through her Crockery Bank & contribute to the greater good.

Her plates have made their way to Karnal, Kahnor, or other Haryana towns.

Anyone can take her crockery for weddings, parties, religious gatherings, or any other occasion and return it afterwards. All they have to do is pay a security deposit, and then when customers return the Crockery, they will receive their deposit back. The only thing the borrower needs to do is keep the tableware clean. This bank is completely free.

This lady’s upbeat attitude has raised awareness of the issue among those around her. One step led to the next, and the more Tulika interacted with nature, the happy she became. She founded Green Hands in 2020 to educate individuals on the risks of plastic consumption and other environmental challenges. The government is working hard to reduce single-use plastics, but we’re not taking the call literally. Maybe it’s because we do not even know why we need to ban single-use plastics in India. Seriously. “Tomorrow will be the outcome of our activities today.”

“If each individual evaluates their acts and regulates their wants, the world could become so much better.”

Remember when we weren’t allowed to get out and wreck the roads during Corona? When we were under control, the air had become so clear that nature could breathe.” Tulika says in an interview with Mad4India. Tulika’s crockery bank is rapidly increasing. Every day, more individuals are connecting with her, and she is assisting more hands in protecting the world. Tulika is now launching a green enterprise in which she would plant trees on the arid territory.
