Women Reservation Bill – Best of 2023

September 2023 witnessed the best of 2023 as Indian legislators passed the first legislation in the country’s new parliament building, The Women’s Reservation Bill 2023. It will ensure that women occupy 33 percent of the seats in the state legislative assemblies and the lower house of parliament, Lok Sabha. It was a much awaited bill that was finally released to uplift the status of Indian women marking another incident in the history of women empowerment in India.

Switching from cash to cashless was a task for a country like India as the majority of population did not even have smartphones. So, it was a gradual process but finally the majority has gone cashless and they use instant payment apps for their daily needs. And when the transformation happened, India saw a need to grow more in the field and so developed its own network of online payment application, Bhim UPI.

Today, Bhim UPI is functional in more than 10 countries like Singapore, Malaysia, France, UK etc. and it was the best of 2023 achievements the nation made.

India’s first women Test Umpire

Indian women’s cricket team played its first test match in 9 years recently. It was moment of proud for the nation as Vrinda Ghanshyam Rathi became the first women in the history of Indian cricket to judge a test match. She got the opportunity to be the center test umpire in her birth state Mumbai. After clearing all the exams conducted by BCCI, it was her best of 2023 as she got the iconic opportunity that no women could ever grab till now.

Females are nowhere behind in the country as India marked another historic moment when Mallika Sagar created history by becoming the first female auctioner in IPL in the history of 16 years. However for Malika this was not this was not the first record as she was also the first female auctioner for the Pro Kabaddi League in 2021. Not a surprise but surely a best of 2023 moment for Malika. The nation is proud of its daughters today!

UNESCO’s intangible cultural heritage list is made up of the elements that help to demonstrate the diversity of cultural heritage throughout the world. This year, Garba, the folk dance form of Gujarat was included in the list marking another best of 2023. It was surely a proud moment for the ‘Bemisal Bharat’ as last year, Durga Puja was included in this list. Garba surely has a crazy energy that has a fan base from all over the India and now it is all set to spread its sparkle to the world.

First deaf lawyer to argue in Supreme Court

India has grown way ahead of the ancient times as the disabled people are given opportunities in all the phases of life and not just sympathy. The best of 2023 had to include the first deaf lawyer, Sarah Sunny, who made history by becoming the first deaf lawyer to argue in Supreme Court. The 27-year old was given an opportunity after the court made exception and allowed a sign language interpreter to assist her with the arguments.
