Journey From Poverty To Captionship Of Women’s World Cup 2022

The Adivasi adolescent from a remote tribal village in Jharkhand’s Maoist-infested Gumla district is going to captain Group India in the Fifa U-17 women’s World Cup 2022, but her past was nearly grey and in rags.

Coming from an impoverished farmer’s family, Astam’s route to success was not simple. She lived a life that most people would like to avoid, yet her resolve became a driving force in her life as she achieved incredible success in her field.

Astam lives in a rented mud house in Dawood Nagar, Gumla. She has four sisters and a brother, and as a child, she struggled with starvation, poverty, and a variety of other issues. In the name of government facilities and resources, the family could only rely on ration cards. Despite the fact that her father was unable to build a pakka home due to the family’s poor financial status, her father was dedicated to giving excellent education to all of her siblings and her.

Her father’s perseverance and passion for educating all of his children helped her acquire wonderful opportunities as a child. She was educated and given the opportunity to visit a school and develop herself into a sportsman. The player who today represents India in Fifa U-17 Women’s World Cup 2022 was born on the soil of a school playground.

Ashtam Oraon has always been interested in sports since she was a child. Even while she was in primary school in the village, she enjoyed playing football at school. Her passion for the game, though, was such that she would play football with her friends even on uneven grounds.

The Leap Of Success in Fifa U-17 Women’s World Cup 2022 Captain

Astam, the third child in the family, always wanted to be a football player since she was a toddler and has never allowed hurdles to stand in her way. She was appointed to coach at a government residential football centre in Hazaribagh in 2016. It was here that her football carrier really started. she not only played it but also observed the details of the game.

“A lady from a remote hamlet practising the sport without many amenities and becoming the captain says volumes about Astam’s struggle,” said Soni Kumari, coach at the Hazaribagh centre.

Astam started getting various chances to participate in various tournaments and show her skills, her learning phase was a long one. She improved & worked on her game while competing in the South Asian Soccer Federation games in Hong Kong, and afterwards in Bangladesh and Jamshedpur in recent years. And finally reached the position of The New Captain of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2022.

She Is Leading The Growth

Gauratoli rose to prominence only after Astam’s nomination to the senior Indian group. The further highlight was heightened when she was named U-17 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2022 captain.

Her success seems to have opened Gorratoli’s long-closed doors to development: The Gumla district government has named a soccer stadium and a road under her name.

“Both myself and my family are happy that a road in my name is being built,” Astam tells Firstpost. “My mum encouraged me, ‘keep making us pride, keep moving forward, and help us build our village.'” Our community, Banari Goratoli, is incredibly tiny and almost unknown to most people.”

The deputy commissioner of Gumla, Mr Sushant Gaurav visited her village to congratulate her father Heeralal Oraon & mother Tara Devi. He stated that being picked for the eighth Indian senior squad & getting selected as The New Captain of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2022 is a moment of pride for the Gumla area.

“This is to inspire other women and their families to never stop dreaming big. A stadium named after her would set the tone for other women to come out, play, and make it big,”

When asked about her goals for Tuesday’s World Cup match, Astam stated, “I only want to look forward, and my objective is to play well and as a squad to win the World Cup.”
