Schemes for women empowerment
1. Ujjawala Scheme
Ujjawala is one of the schemes for women empowerment launched by the Government of India in 2007 for dealing with human trafficking. It offers prevention, rescue, rehabilitation, and re-integration for the victims of human trafficking and sexual violence.
Basically it is implemented through non-governmental organizations where the individuals working in an NGO initiate for rescuing the suffering humans. A total of 5 crore was approved as initial funding for this scheme in 2009-2010. Today, 96 projects of scheme Ujjawala along with 58 rehabilitation centers are operational all over the country.
2. Working Women Hostel
In today’s world be it a girl or boy, both have to leave their parental home at sometime for their career and dream goals. In such a situation, it becomes little difficult for girl to survive outside as their safety is the supreme concern. They cannot trust anybody casually when it comes to finding a suitable place to live.
Keeping all this in mind, the government of India founded Working Women Hostel scheme to provide hostel facilities to all the working women without any discrimination. It provides safety and accommodation at the workplace of the working women and helps with the daycare facility for their children as well so that they can work without any tension. New hostel buildings are established as per the needs and the existing ones are facilitated with all the necessities. All the working women living away from their homes can avail for the benefits of this scheme.
3. Swadhar Greh
Amongst all the top schemes for women empowerment, Swadhar greh is also implemented by the Ministry of Women and Child Development for all the women who face difficulty and require institutional help in order to live a dignified life. This scheme mainly aims at providing the women who have faced many hardships in life with a safe place to live, food, clothes, healthcare, ,as well as financial and social security.
It allows them to bring their children with them. Girls upto 18 years of age and boys till 8 years are allowed to stay in Swadhar Greh with their mothers. After 8 years, the boys are relocated to Children Homes run under the government. Initially Swadhar Greh was launched in all the districts with a capacity of rescuing 30 women from all the places in 2002. Slowly, the government invested funds in it to expand the great cause and help the ladies to be a strong independent women.
4. Rashtriya Mahila Kosh
Rashtriya Mahila Kosh has the capacity to be at the top of all the schemes for women empowerment. It is a society that helps the financially deprived females with the help of some NGOs and self-help groups. It was launched in 1993 by the Ministry of Women and Child Development only with the goal of providing micro-interest rate loans to the the females who wish to do something great in life but take a backseat due to financial crisis.
It is uplifting the marginalized women by working on their financial empowerment. This window is a safe space for all the ladies who wish to achieve a goal but are restricted due to the financial constraints in the family. 5. Mahila Police Volunteers
Many women in India were hesitant in reporting an issue concerning their closed ones. There were chances that the case might end even before starting or that they will be targeted after accepting things in public. So, the Ministry of Women and Child Development in collaboration with the Home Affairs came with Mahila Police Volunteers, another star of the schemes for women empowerment.
It has an aim to increase the reporting and responsive time to the crime cases for the fight for women. It promotes the enrollment of women in the police department so that no female feels hesitant in reporting incidences like dowry harassment, child marriage, and violence faced by them in public places and homes.
All the schemes for women empowerment have a basic motive to uplift the females under all negative circumstances.
