The world and the media around us have set unrealistic expectations of beauty. A slim body and flawless skin are termed perfect examples of defining beauty. Many people suffer from low self-esteem and confidence because of these wrong concepts of beauty. At mad4india, today we bring the motivational story of Prarthana Jagan. She is a model by profession who changed the concept of beauty.
Development of Vitiligo
Prarthana developed a skin condition called Vitiligo or Leucoderma. She noticed white spots on her face when she was 11 years old. Vitiligo is a condition in which the skin loses its pigment cells. This results in discolored patches in different areas of the body, including the skin, hair, and mucous membranes. Prarthana visited various dermatologists for her skin condition. She was informed that her condition might result from not being deformed properly.
Use of Makeup
Prathana Jagan proceeded and took various deworming medications. She was misdiagnosed, and no doctor could recognize her skin condition properly. She tried many treatments for her skin, and her condition kept worsening. The skin condition kept spreading, and she visited another dermatologist. Finally, this one doctor could identify her skin condition as Vitiligo. The doctor recommended some medicines and skin-friendly makeup. Prathana started using makeup when she was just 11 and wore it until the age of 19.
Problems with School Life
The school life of Prarthana became miserable. She was bullied for wearing makeup in school. Her classmates used to call her ‘the mask’ because of the makeup she used to wear to hide her skin condition. Prarthana’s self-confidence was severely affected.
A Hospital Visit that Changed Everything
After her 12th in 2016, Prarthana was diagnosed with an ovarian cyst in her fallopian tube. She had to get that operated on in an emergency laparoscopy, as her condition was worsening. During her two-day stay, she could not wear makeup. Prarthana Jagan observed that even without makeup, she was treated like others. It boosted her confidence, and she realized that life was much more than being insecure about one’s skin. She decided not to wear makeup anymore to hide her skin condition. A sense of self-confidence emerged from within her.
Modeling Contracts
Prarthana celebrated her skin and stopped all treatments. She became active on YouTube and Instagram to share her journey. Many people responded and shared similar problems. Eventually, she started receiving modeling contracts. In November 2016, she modeled for Elle Magazine, followed by Grazia in 2017. In 2018, she started working with Blunt model agency.
