Early life of the human calculator

His interest developed in numbers when he was gifted a Calculator. In his seventh grade, he was able to solve higher level mathematical problems very easily.

His special skill is not based on any shortcuts or formulas but the focusing on numbers for years. He notices numbers everywhere and it was 12 years of hard work that created this skill in him.

The motivation behind this unique talent is a 1965 book Vedic Mathematics by Bharati Krishna Tirtha.

Vedic maths is an Indian equivalent of abacus which has several techniques to solve the arithmetic in a simpler and faster way. He was also inspired by Scott Flans Berg who is also known as the human calculator who could solve complex problems fastest since his childhood.

His talent has been recognized all around the world. He holds three National Records for the fastest continuous addition and multiplication. He also has the world record to his credit by the Arabian Book of Records for the fastest Mind Math.

The human calculator’s ability to work like a calculator and solve mathematical problems without any errors led to his inclusion in Limca Book of Records for multiplying the number 67 to itself over and over in 15 seconds and got an 11 digit answer.

Vivek Raj also gave a proposal to government named as “Project Mathletics” to include Vedic Mathematics in educational syllabus. Though his project did not receive many positive responses yet but his efforts are aided by Alappuzha MP AM Arif and we hope that Project Mathletics comes into action soon and make learning mathematics fun.
