Vegetable

It has become hard to find vegetables that are grown through organic farming these days. Most farmers add chemicals for crops growth. Although the vegetables grow faster and look good with the use of these chemicals, it would affect the health negatively. We may not realize the downside of using this immediately but with time they start harming the body.

Some motivated and caring individuals who do understand the ill effects of chemical-based farming still promote and engage in natural farming. One such story is of Arvind. He is the founder of Shaaka, a start-up that provides fresh vegetables grown through natural farming.

Education and Career of The Founder

Arvind was born and brought up in Bangalore. He is an engineer by profession. Arvind has a BE degree in mechanical engineering and worked in the software industry for approximately sixteen years. After completing his degree in engineering, he further went for an MBA in technology management from NTU, Singapore. In 2016, Arvind left his work at the IT company at Cognizant. He was living in Sydney and carrying out business development for the company.

It helped me elevate my mood and my overall health.” In 2010, Arvind invested in a conventional farm. The farm is located in the Shimoga district in Thirthahalli. Areca nut, pepper, banana, coconut, and cashew are grown on the farm.

Since 2017, Arvind has been growing chemical-free and poison-free vegetables on a half-acre of land, Kanakpura Road, Bangalore. Arvind had no experience in growing vegetables. He started growing crops on the terrace of his house. After that, Arvind started growing vegetables for his friends and family. Once he was appreciated for the quality of vegetables he was providing, he decided to take it up commercially.

Concept Of Natural Farming

Arvind mentioned, “I was new to the entire concept of natural farming. I took the responsibility of growing the vegetables, and my friend Shankar decided to take up the responsibility of marketing our vegetables. We both worked hard to understand how agricultural business works.” Within eight months, the duo was able to grow 7-8 tonnes of vegetables. Arvind mentioned, “Our customers love the quality of the vegetables we provide. They do not go to other vegetable vendors. We have successfully established ourselves as a premium quality brand.”

Natural Farming Methods

Some crops are grown in cocopeat, and the place is covered to protect the crops from harsh weather conditions. The green vegetables are grown in cocopeat using water-soluble nutrients. The vegetables are grown in soil. He wishes to shift all the crops to soil soon. We wish Arvind all the best for all his future endeavors!
