Everybody isn’t blessed with enough resources. Obstacles are common in life but, for some people, they start at the time of birth. One such inspirational story is of Anant Vaishya, who was born with a physical disability. He didn’t let his disability become a hurdle in the way of creating an application for farmers.

Extensively Consumed Product

Sugarcane is widely grown in India. It is used to make sugar and jaggery, two products extensively consumed in most households in India. Farmers still don’t get a good price for their products. The middlemen in between take big commissions, and the farmers don’t receive a fair price for their jaggery products.

App Idea

Anant Vaishya is a second-year engineering student from B.K Ambedkar Institute Of Technology for Handicapped, Kanpur. He worked on the app through a competition held by Abdul Kalam Technical University. The university asked different students from various colleges to submit technical ideas for the theme ‘One District, One Product.’ Anant was one of the 157 participants who submitted their ideas.

Challenges

Anant’s idea to develop an app for the farmers helped him to land in the top six students. The application can help farmers to sell jaggery. Anant cannot hold anything, neither can he walk on his own. He operates his mobile phone using his nose and uses his laptop with just one finger. Anant is differently abled since birth. But he has always been passionate about studying and applying his knowledge for the welfare of others.

Reason behind developing the application

He made an app for jaggery farmers as they are exploited in the market and do not get decent pay for their hard work. The app is called ‘Gud Ka Saathi.’

With the help of this application, the farmers can directly interact with the consumers. They can also sell their products at a fair price. A deal can strike without the need of an intermediary or the need to approach a market.

Anant mentioned, ” I always felt that the farmers do not get the right price. It feels good to help them. The farmers sell their jaggery products for 1/4 price. Now, with this application, they will get the right price.”

Features of the app

The application can also illustrate methods of creating flavored jaggery. Flavored jaggery is high in demand. Chocolate, Vanilla, and ice cream flavored jaggery can be made through the recipes available on the app.

The app aims to make work profitable for the farmers. Additionally, the aim is to provide consumers with good quality products.

Personal Vision

Anant Vaishya aspires to become a software developer one day. He wishes to develop more such applications in the future that benefit the people. He does not see his disability as a problem. Instead, he views it as a challenge that he believes he can deal with through determination and hard work.
