Sukriti

Unclean water bodies and unhygienic sanitization are two of the several problems that require immediate attention. Usable water on earth is limited, and keeping it clean is our responsibility. Unhygienic sanitization of places and practices are the main reasons for many diseases.

Sukriti is working to solve these two main developmental challenges of our society. Anirudh Yadav is the founder of Sukriti. He co-founded Sukriti with some of his friends from IIT Roorkee, 2015. Currently, Anirudh is the CEO of the Sukriti foundation. He completed his studies in BTech.

Hygienic Sanitization By Ecomitra

Unfortunately, more than 800 million Indians do not have access to safe sanitization practices. Every 20 seconds, a child dies due to substandard sanitization. Women have to walk long distances to find a private place to defecate which is the major issue of sanitization. Ecomitra provides an apt solution to the problem of unhygienic sanitization. The part of Sukriti that works for clean sanitization is called Ecomitra.

Public toilets and washrooms in India face some challenging issues like- the provision of an uninterrupted water supply, a lack of waste disposal mechanisms, and the need for constant maintenance. These issues make it too difficult to practice hygienic sanitization. The combination of all three factors forces people to use open spaces for defecating and urinating. Such people compromise their dignity, safety, and basic sanitization. The condition of unhygienic sanitization makes people highly prone to malnutrition, allergy, chronic diseases, etc.

Features of Ecomitra

The toilets made by Ecomitra are strongly inbuilt. The use of sturdy fittings and metallic fixtures ensures that the toilets stay long-lasting. No grid connection is required as the toilets run on solar energy. Inside the washroom, there is onsite wastewater treatment. It saves up to 80 percent water by recycling it for floor cleaning, flushing, washing hands, etc. Zero maintenance is required. The toilet does not require manual cleaning as it automatically cleans and flushes. It can also decide the optimum amount of water required for the cleaning and sanitization tasks. In case of no water or choked tanks, it automatically stops the users from entering inside to use the toilets.

Suffering Due to Unsafe Water

Sadly, 76 million Indians do not have access to safe drinking water. India consists of 16% of the world’s population but has 4% of clean water. More than 500 children below the age of 5 die each day due to diarrhea. Clean water is a necessity for all human beings. The shortage of water has become a problem that is being faced by everyone. If people don’t start valuing this invaluable resource, soon the water crisis will reach a point where no solution would be good enough. Currently, there are two ways to make clean water available. One is to conserve the already existing water. The second is to reuse the water. Sukriti works for the latter cause.

The System of Cleaning Water

The system of cleaning water made by Sukriti is called Rewater. The system runs on solar energy, and hence no grid connection is required. It requires zero operational costs. The system uses hybrid technology. The use of hybrid technology leads to the production of the minimum number of foul gases. Rewater system also recycles the black water. Although recycled black water is only safe for non-potable use such as flushing, washing, cooling, horticulture, etc. The machine is fully automated. It functions itself and does not require any manual intervention.

The Treatment Projects Undertaken by Sukriti

Sukriti is working on various water treatment projects. The Tilyar lake in Rohtak has a lot of algae growth on its surface. This has led to a reduction in aquatic flora and fauna and has also affected tourism. Sukriti is working on the revival of Tilyar lake. To increase the dissolved oxygen concentrations Aerators would be installed throughout the lake. Also, algae-eating fishes will breed in the water. These steps would decrease the growth of algae. Radha Kund is a religious place in Mathura. The water of the Kund is highly contaminated with BOD, COD, and Total Nitrogen levels. Sukriti is working to clean the Kund through a low-cost and low-energy setup.

Benefits for The Environment and People

All the interventions to clean the water bodies will protect and preserve flora and fauna in the respective areas. Additionally, this will boost tourism and affect the livelihood of the native people positively. Mad4India wishes Sukriti the best of luck in all their future endeavors.

The Ecomitra initiative will make the dream of practicing hygienic sanitization come true.
