If you’re a coffee lover, you know that drinking coffee is a complex and nuanced experience—there’s the rich aroma, the comforting warmth, and the loveliness of the ritual of sitting down with a fresh cup. Well, finally we have The theka coffee to solve it all at once for all the coffee lovers out there..
Despite the fact that Narayan Murthy, Ratan Tata, Dhirubai Ambai, Jeff Bezos among many have lives that read like a book of success stories, yet it is inevitable that the book will also contain chapters about failure. It’s very difficult to find a success story that doesn’t include any failures or setbacks in the list of experiences.
Theka Cafeee also experienced a major setback because, despite being a well-run business, it received no funding from Shark Tank India. Even though Bhupinder was shocked and in disbelief, it is simply astonishing how he managed to pull it off even after the rejection by all the Sharks.
Theka Coffee – A New Name For Coffee Lovers
Theka Coffee is a modern coffee chain that aims to provide its customers with 100% locally and ethically sourced arabica coffee beans at competitive prices. The coffee is cold-brewed, which is a better method of brewing because it has a high caffeine content and little acidity. With a unique look and taste, Theka Coffee is already in the hype for all coffee lovers.
Starting on September 2017 this coffee shop experienced many ups and downs & ins and outs of the market, but the owner had his claws deeply embedded in the ground and was obstinate enough to face any challenges that came his way.
Young businessman Bhupinder has always been passionate about the food and beverage industry. With a combined 15 years of business experience, he set out to disrupt India’s coffee market after getting sick of the same-old coffees being served in cafes all over the country.
He succeeded in creating a truly authentic Indian coffee brand that makes great coffee available to everyone in every nook and cranny, which offers the best coffees to everyone at the most reasonable prices.
Bhupinder Madan’s Theka Coffee, a small business with its headquarters in Ahmedabad, has been gaining popularity for its original concept and top-notch coffee as well as its appearance on the Shark Tank India. Even though he didn’t receive any funding, his brand gained enough recognition through the show that its sales have increased like never before.
What Makes This Theka Of Coffee Unique
Ever imagined grabbing bottles of coffee from a theka? But why is this outlet called A theka. Well, Hindi’s word “theka” means “contract,” a nod to the company’s goal of serving the best coffee in the country without compromising the pocket of the customer or harming the environment
While speaking to the judges of Shark Tank, Bhupinder said that he often used to visit various coffee outlets only to realise at the end of the day that they sell the same old cappuccino, Americano and latte coffee at highly expensive rates. He felt that there was a lack of creativity.
He added that his friends had once asked him, “Kya tune theka toh nehi utha liya coffee industry change karne ka?” And from there he got a unique idea and opened the brand. The unique coffee variants rolled out at his bar include Palang Tod, Next Level, Coffee Ki Jawani, Chocolate Patola and Berry Piya, among others. The shop sells refreshing milkshakes too. The brand aims to sell high-quality single-estate Arabica coffees at pocket-friendly rates.
The beans are roasted in-house, ensuring freshness and flavour. The menu also includes a range of teas, juices, and snacks, making it a great spot for a quick breakfast or afternoon pick-me-up.
What sets Theka Coffee apart from other coffee shops is its focus on sustainability and social responsibility. The business uses only ethically-sourced coffee beans, ensuring that the farmers who grew them are paid fairly and treated well. Additionally, the coffee shop offers a “tree for coffee” program, where customers can donate a tree to be planted in rural India in exchange for a free cup of coffee.
But perhaps what sets Theka Coffee apart the most is its atmosphere. The interior design is rustic and cosy, with exposed brick walls and wooden accents. The outdoor seating area is lush and green, providing a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.
The Man Behind The Theka
Bhupinder, the brain behind Theka Coffee was just 14 when he started earning money. The Ahmedabad boy made Rs 200 per day after school by selling pamphlets to shopkeepers and laymen.
While he was in Classes 11 and 12. He didn’t feel obligated to go to class and only went to take his exams. Instead, Bhupinder noticed momo thelas in every neighbourhood of Delhi while visiting his other home. And he observed a lack of momo as a street food trend in his hometown Ahmedabad.
When he was only 15 years old & he started a momo stall in the city. Later, he was asked by a committee overseeing the company canteen to include North Indian cuisine, which prompted him to start “Happy Hours” and serve parathas for breakfast. He managed two types of food services at his small stall and made Rs 3,000 and 4,000 per day.
He then began working as a freelance business developer for an IT firm. He also had a job at an organisation that created apps. According to Bhupinder, these experiences helped him realize that he was a fine salesperson.
Bhupinder made the decision to stop doing everything else in January 2017 in order to concentrate on studying the food & beverage sector. Bhupinder’s inspiration to sell coffee in beer bottles came from a trip to a bar in Delhi.
In September 2017, Bhupinder launched Theka by hawking coffee on the streets. In Ahmedabad’s Sindhu bhavan Marg, he would leave his car parked and sell coffee to onlookers.
Theka Coffee Is A Business With A Heart
The business has gained a following on social media, with customers raving about the quality of the coffee and its unique concept.
But beyond the buzz, Theka Coffee is a business with heart. In addition to its commitment to sustainability and social responsibility, the business also supports local artists and musicians, hosting events and exhibitions to showcase their work.
