EggDee had it all. But the success and appreciation that follow make all the hard work worth it. Read on to find out what was the story behind EggDee and all the appreciation and recognition it received over the years.
Motivational Story Behind Starting EggDee
Sanjay’s father passed away when he was only 14 years. Being the eldest one in the family, he had too many responsibilities to shoulder. Having a family of 4 members; he wanted to ensure they are safe and at least provide for their basic needs to them.
Both he and his mother were in a state of shock and confusion. All he knew was that he couldn’t stay without work for long. He knew his responsibilities in the family so he left education to support his family. He started selling Pani puri and repaired punctured tires. He used to do something or the other every day and get daily wages, but that wasn’t enough to feed 4 stomachs every day. Soon he understood he had to do something that assured stability.

The Beginning of EggDee
One fine day, Sanjay noticed a crowd around an egg stall, but he never had the idea of people loving eggs so much. With every passing day, he saw the crowd kept increasing. That is when this beautiful and brilliant thought of beginning EggDee crossed his mind. The idea was to start his egg thela, so he borrowed some money from his aunt to buy the basic things.

Coming from a typical Brahmin family where garlic and onion are taboo, things started getting hard for him. But nothing could stop him from doing what he wanted. After all, he was against letting his siblings give up on education like him.
The next day, he started making omelets. But ended up burning some of them and making scrambled eggs out of some. But his dedication and efforts remained constant. He kept on trying until he got the perfect omelet after 2 days. To start his thela, he borrowed Rs.600 and began.
His relatives were against what he was doing, but he did it, anyway. They even passed mean comments at him, but all he knew was that he had to make money by hook or by crook.
The first day wasn’t great as he had only 5 customers but he had hope. But slowly he started getting more customers. 4 of his regular customers appreciated him for his scrumptious omelets. They also told him he was great at communicating, so he started having conversations with his customers.

The Success Story of EggDee
Soon enough, several people started coming to his thela and became regular. While some of them gave him tips on cooking, others provided him with ingredients; bringing them from their homes. And with all the support he received, he started growing and getting better.
He also started experimenting with cheese, garlic paste, and other spices. And while experimenting he came up with a unique and mouthwatering dish called Egg Pizza and it became his specialty too.

Right after this, his business prospered, and he had earned enough in 5 years to rent a place. Sanjay’s mother was happy and proud of him. He once told his mother that he wants to name his business EggDee as it rhymes with McD and will strike a chord with people.
Standing in the 30th year of his business, he proudly says that his business helped him buy a house for his mother and help settle his siblings. His son who completed his MBA is now helping him to expand his business. And his thela business now has 8 branches across Jaipur. EggDee is present in North India as well. What a cheerful story, right? Starting at 14 with no money and feeding thousands of people now.

3. Vicky Roy –
Inspiring Story of a ragpicker and homeless child turned internationally acclaimed photographer
Vicky Roy is a living example of the fact that dreams come true if you work for them. His incredible journey from being a rag picker at the station to having his name in the Forbes is praiseworthy. He is also an inspiration for the youngsters who are the future of the country. Hailing from a small town, this successful photographer had big dreams. Let’s have a look at how he made this beautiful transition for himself.
Vicky Roy’s Rough Start to Life
Vicky’s father wasn’t financially stable, for which he couldn’t afford his education costs. He belonged to a small town named Purulia in West Bengal. His father earned 15 to 20 rupees a day and he couldn’t afford education for his son. With dreams of making his son complete his higher secondary education and have a comparatively better life, his father sent Vicky to live with his maternal grandparents.
From there he attended school, returned home, and did the household chores, but he didn’t have the life his father wanted him to have there. He was beaten up for the smallest of things, leading a life exactly opposite to what his father thought.

Deciding for Himself
Being done with the daily torture he was being put through, he left that place. He stole some money from his maternal uncle’s pocket and boarded a train to Delhi. Once he reached the New Delhi railway station, he was overwhelmed by the rush of people on the platform. Out of fear and shock, he burst out crying after reaching the station.

Living Life of Ragpicker and Eating Leftovers
Few kids at the station who picked up rags saw him, comforted him, and made him a part of them. He soon started working with them, collecting water bottles, washing them, filling them again, sold them in the general compartments.
They had the leftovers from the train pantries, but soon he realized that this life wasn’t for him because kids like them were tortured and abused. The negligible amounts they earned were taken away from them by the goons who attacked them.

He looked for another job at a small dhaba at Ajmeri Gate, where he was employed as a dishwasher. One day, a young man who had come for a meal asked him why he worked when he was supposed to finish his studies and achieve big things in life. On learning about Vicky’s conditions, the young man enrolled him at the Salaam Baalak Trust in Delhi, which is an NGO that provided a nurturing environment to children.

Big dreams and a camera, that’s how he started his journey as a photographer. Vickey’s life is very similar to that of The Inspiring Story Of Once A Rag Picker Now Feeding Over 800 Slum Kids

The trust had also helped him to get a job under a renowned photographer of Delhi named Anay Maan. He worked for him at Rs.3000 per month and took a loan of Rs.28000 from the trust to get himself a good camera. Not just that, this hardworking and inspiring guy also worked as a server to earn enough to sustain himself, buy camera films and repay the loan.

5. Café Positive –
An Success story by Kallol Ghosh to run a café by HIV+ men and women to eradicate negative thoughts about them
That Café Positive is run by HIV+ youngsters is the best thing about it. It works for a social cause that helps in eradicating negative feelings and thoughts about these warriors. There are still sections of society that look down on these people and isolate them, but the kind-hearted Kallol Ghosh started this café to put an end to this. Let’s take you through the journey of the café and what motivated him to go about with it.
Café Positive – Introduction
Café Positive is a café that is one of its kind that is tucked away in a tiny garage in Jodhpur Park in Kolkata. The unique thing about the café is that it is run by a team of HIV+ teenagers, both men, and women. It is the dream come true of 11 HIV+ teenagers. Kallol Ghosh, the brain behind Café Positive, came into their lives as their guardian angel and savior by leading the path of bringing happiness into their lives and work towards eradicating negative thoughts about these HIV+ people.
Founder’s Background
Kallol Ghosh, a social worker, founder of Café Positive, and a guardian angel of these teenagers had a word with the Ministry of Human Resources Development and the UN putting forward his idea. After volunteering with organizations like UNICEF and UN, Kallol Ghosh established Organization for Friends and Energies and Resources called OFFER, in the year 1986. It is a non-governmental organization that provides healthcare, education, and shelter facilities to underprivileged children and youngsters who are affected by HIV/AIDS. When these children turn 18, they are trained to be efficient employees of the café.

The Struggle
As always, the beginning is never a cakewalk rather it is filled with hardships, and once one overcomes that, he or she is halfway there, close to success. Mr. Kallol Ghosh ran from one door to another to find a suitable place for setting up the cafe. The moment he mentioned the HIV+ teenagers who would be running it, the owners slammed the door in his face. In some places even if they said that they were okay with it, they said that their family and neighbors wouldn’t approve of it and would be displeased. None of them cooperated or were appreciative of this initiative.
The success story
After six months of place hunting and facing rejections there came a day when Kallol Ghosh finally found a small area to start with the café. Indrajyoti Dasgupta, an honorary member of the Rotary Club of Kolkata offered his garage area when he found out that these teenagers have been looking for a decent and appropriate place to set up their café for more than six months.
Initially, he was a bit skeptical about giving his garage space as it was comparatively smaller in size than what they were looking for. After finding out for how long they were looking for a place he gave it to them and told them that they can make their beginning from there and then spread their wings with time.

A little more about Café Positive

HIV+ people are no different than other human beings they are just as human as us. In the last two years, it has been accepted by everyone but it has been a success ever since its inception.

The idea of Unbox Himachal Valley
While running her cottage business in Manali almost 6 years ago, Shivee Sirmauri realized that the local handicrafts were losing their importance and were dying a slow death. To support local businesses and help in creating a sustainable lifestyle Shivee, a resident of Himachal Pradesh and a writer by profession came up with a very creative idea almost 3 years ago.
She observed that the ladies of Himachal Pradesh who earlier actively used to weave and knit enthusiastically now had stopped working. There were no money-making opportunities for them.
Instead, these women had chosen an alternate way to make money for livelihood. These women would take their animals like rabbits and sheep to different tourist spots and request tourists to get photographed with these animals. Tourists did not pay them over 30-40 rupees and some even misbehaved with them.
This scenario disturbed Shivee, and she wanted to help these women. She did not know what exactly needed to improve the situation of the local women.
Shivee as an individual had adopted an eco-friendly lifestyleand gave up on products that were bad for the environment. She went plastic-free and used products that would support her vision of a sustainable lifestyle and environment. Her changed lifestyle eventually gave her the idea to start something in this direction. Adapting sustainable lifestyle is seen in many a individual in some way or the other you too can contribute in it 5 important sustainable living activities to engage your kids, Make them recycle, reuse and reduce

Progress of Unbox Himachal Valley
After three years of hard work and struggles, Shivee came up with the idea of Unbox Himachal Valley, a small start-up that included all women of Himachal Pradesh who were interested in making handmade products and contributing toward a sustainable lifestyle.
Amrita, who is also the idea designer of Unbox Himachal Valley, helped Shivee turn her dream into reality. It currently involves Amrita in designing products and curating good ideas for the start-up.
Apart from working with Unbox Himachal Valley, Amrita also actively organizes art exhibitions, mental health, and theatre workshops and supports budding entrepreneurs with their start-ups.
The specialty of Unbox Himachal Valley makes it unique, as it is completely plastic-free. From the making of products to the packaging, they use no plastic.
All the Himachali women who work and provide products to Unbox Himachal Valley are known by the name of ‘The Unique Pahadans’. The Unique Pahadans work from home and try to create products from whatever eco-friendly materials are available to them.
A wide variety of patented products are created by these women ranging from clothing items like socks, shawls, caps, stoles, sarees, shirts, and masks to items like jams, fruit preservatives, and chemical-free soaps, and lip balms!
Current Status
The central idea behind this initiative was to empower local women and support local businesses that are losing their value. The idea to create products that would be environmentally friendly was like a cherry on the cake.
Neetika Sharma, who became Miss Himachal (2019) also supports this initiative and appreciates the efforts of all the people associated with Unboxing Himachal Valley. Some campsites and homestays have also tied with Unboxing Himachal Valley as gift partners like Nomad Shimla, Shimla Gypsy, and Nomad Fagu.
