Holi is among the most enduring Hindu cultural marvels. A celebration of the hues of life, the delight of love, and proudly following the concepts of forgiveness and devotion. Holi must have been celebrated with flowers or natural dyes when it first began, making it essentially an organic Holi.
With time most of us are learning how important it is to use nature sustainably and make the right decisions. We are finally returning to the ideas of organic and sustainability after years of exploitation of nature and ourselves. Well, “Der Aye, Durust Aye“.
Since you are reading this, it is obvious that we share the same desire to celebrate Holi in an organic manner. If so, let’s begin with the most essential element of Holi – the colours.
Making organic Holi colour is very simple, requires few materials, and is extremely cost-effective. All you need to do is enter the kitchen and open some drawers to get what you need.
Red
It’s simple to make organic Holi colours at home; let’s start with the one that’s most frequently used – Red organic Holi colour.
The stunning hibiscus flower can be used to create an intense red colour. To make a fine powder, simply dry the flowers, blend them, and add gram flour to it & there you go. A fine red organic gulal will be prepared in no time.
Yellow
Every household has turmeric, which is the ideal ingredient for creating homemade yellow herbal Holi colours. You’ll need some dried turmeric root and will need to grind it in order to make yellow organic Holi colours.
Even the haldi powder you already have in your kitchen can be used. In order to achieve the ideal shade & texture of yellow, you should mix 1 tablespoon of gram flour with 2 tablespoons of haldi powder.
Green
The green colour is created by mixing the henna powder with gram flour and rose water. The process by now is pretty clear, we dry the raw material, grind it fine and there we go.
Orange
These days, the sides of the road are lined with numerous huge trees adorned with large orange or red flowers. They immediately draw attention due to their beauty. These flowers have a long history of being connected to Holi. To create a beautiful shade of orange gulal, all you need to do is collect these fallen flowers.
To create orange, you will need this well-known flower called the Flame of the Forest or “Palash ka phool”. Create a fine powder by drying the petals. Add gram flour and combine it well.
Grey
Holi colour creation requires creativity, but it’s simple to create unusual hues. Try your hand at creating grey to be a little unconventional. Grind the amla you have. Add cornflour to it and combine well. You can easily use the fine powder you get after sieving it for Holi.
Wet Organic Holi Colours
Holi is known as the festival of wilds for a reason; we enjoy irritating our loved ones and preparing for the summer by taking chilly showers. Wet Holi colours are a must for a fun Holi celebration, so we also have some simple organic Holi colour recipes for you.
Making wet Holi colours from two ingredients in your kitchen can work best. Saffron can be used to make a wet orange colour, and beetroot can be used to make a maroon colour for a beautiful, colourful yet nature-friendly organic Holi.
