Bhangarh, The Most Popular Haunted Place In India
Bhangarh is perhaps India’s most popular haunted location. It is only one and a half hours from Jaipur, Rajasthan.
This ancient township was founded in the later half of the 16th century by Raja Bhagwant Das, ruler of Amber, and later on, it was made the capital of Raja Madho Singh, brother of Raja Man Singh 1.
There are many folklores to how this beautiful city turned into a land of horror and dead stones.
The story of the fort dates back to the 17th century. When, a sage, named Balu Nath used to live in the fort area. The spot used to serve as his meditation spot. When the king pleaded with him to build a fort in the same place, he agreed on one condition: the buildings should not be taller than his house, and the shadow of the fort should not fall on his house; if so it would result in the destruction of the fort town. But when the fort reached its final shape, it cast a shadow on his house. He cursed the king, and the fort was doomed in no time, The fort became a haunted place.
Another story behind the haunted, ill-fated fort is the tale of a beautiful princess, Ratnavati, daughter of Chatr Singh. A tantrik fell in love with her and tried to bewitch her through a cosmetic, she was supposed to fall in love with him.
But Ratnavati caught his conspiracy and poured the cosmetic over a stone boulder, which crushed him to death. Before he died, he cursed the city, saying it would be a desert and nobody would be able to live peacefully there. Soon after that, Bhangarh became a haunted place.
The city is a wonder of lifeless stones, green jungles all around, and eerie energies that can enthrall visitors in addition to being a haunted location.
Paranormal Activity in Writer’s Building, Kolkata
Since Kolkata was once the capital of India during the British period, many cemeteries are there, where many royal servants have been sleeping for 200–300 years like Park Street Cemetery, Lower Circular Road Cemetery, etc. Although Kolkata is fondly known as the “City of Joy,”but it has many old buildings and structures known as “haunted” places. The writer’s building is one of them. Situated in Central Kolkata, the area that holds the sceptre of Victorian glory in Kolkata.
Originally, it was the administrative office of the “writers,” or junior clerks, of the British East India Company. After 1947, the writer’s building served as the West Bengal government’s secretariat, although now it is shifted to the Nabanna.
The Writers Building will be the most prominent on the city’s “scary places” list, as it has witnessed many historical incidents including the “battle of the corridors.”
On December 8, 1930, the Binoy, Badal, and Dinesh trio entered the writer’s building, dressed in European clothes with heavily loaded firearms, and killed notorious Inspector General of Police Colonel N.S. Simpson.
Since then, it has become a famous haunted place in Kolkata. Many have claimed that they have seen an Englishman in an expensive suit who went missing in front of the staircase. Many watchmen and staff have reported serial disturbances in different parts of this “mini township” like building.
Many have heard eerie noises like sounds of typing from locked rooms, moans of invisible people, and the strong sounds of heavy marching boots. Nobody wants to go there after sunset.
The Invisible Piano Player of Old AIR Station, Kolkata
Another haunted place in Kolkata is No. 1 Garstin Place. Once, it was the home of All India Radio. It has many spooky stories to tell. The building is almost ruined. Many of its parts have crumbled over time.
Prior to renting it to AIR, it served as a hub for British officials to conduct court proceedings and other administrative tasks. Many have reported seeing ghostly British Babus sitting on a chair on the second floor of that building. Even many renowned musicians and artists have claimed to hear the sound of the piano, although nobody has ever seen a piano player.
Warren Hastings On Horse Carriage
If you want to meet the first Governor General of India, Mr. Warren Hastings, you have to go to the over 250-year-old Hastings House, formerly known as Belvedere House, Calcutta, one of the most haunted places in the city.
According to witnesses, Hastings saheb, who used to live in this house, comes every Poornima night, dressed in a royal robe and riding on a horse cart, to look for his valuables, which he forgot to take before leaving the city. Many locals have also reported seeing the ghost of a white horse that was shot dead by someone.
The Headless Ghost Of Dow Hill, Kurseong
If you enjoy extreme adventures, you should visit Dow Hill, a small hill station that is 30 kilometers from Darjeeling and one of India’s most attractive haunted places. Dow Hill is not only famous for its scenic beauty but is also home to a death road, a haunted school, a headless ghost, and numerous spooky stories.
If you go for a stroll after 6 or 7 p.m., you won’t be able to see anybody on the road, as locals prefer not to go out from their safe place after sundown. The government also installed no streetlights.
Locals say many unnatural deaths seem to have taken place in the past, and they are still haunting this place. Many eerie stories are associated with the death road of Dow Hill. If you are a lucky visitor, you may meet a headless little boy who will go missing in the forest of death roads. You can see a century-old Victoria Boys’ High School standing alone in the forest of Dow Hill.
If you have time, meet the watchman of the school, who may share his own experiences related to the jinxed school. Many people have reported hearing students whispering loudly when the school is closed for the winter break. Dow Hill, in a nutshell, is the home of both beauty and beast.
