This Inspector from Ayodhya didn’t give a second thought about teaching these children in need of education. Inspector Ranjeet Singh Yadav is popularly referred to as ‘Khakhi wale Guruji.’ His objective is to educate slum kids. While on duty, the UP cop got the idea for his ‘Apna School’ program.

These were the slum children who lived along the Saryu, begging for money every day. Yadav rode his bike into the temple town’s slum neighborhoods at Khajua Kund, where he found scores of children and their families getting ready for the day.

When he asked their parents whether they would give up their children for education, they enthusiastically nodded, but they lacked the necessary documentation. This sparked the teacher within him, and he offered to educate them every day. The inspector arrived at the Khajua Kund slums before the youngsters could accompany their parents to beg.

He had come prepared to teach 60 children along with a board to teach them. That is how the concept of ‘Apna School’ evolved.

The inspiring duo Lincy George and Sebastian, who live in Kerala, have devoted years to providing their students, most among who come from underprivileged families, with a permanent place to live will surely inspire on this Teachers Day.

Lincy George’s inner fire never waned despite losing her vision. She is a teacher at the Government Tribal Higher Secondary School in Murikkattukudy, Idukki, and over the past few years, she has given countless hours of her altruistic time to better the lives of her underprivileged students. Her efforts led to the construction of about six houses for kids at her school.

The majority of the students at the school are from tribal villages and come from low-income families. She claims that some families find it difficult to feed their children even for a single day.

She realized how fortunate she is to have a roof over her head and enough food on her plate after hearing about their experiences. She should have done at least what she could to assist them.

Dr. Bhuvana Vasudevan of Puducherry holds a unique place in the hearts of several of her students. She stepped in to help slow learners and students with developmental disabilities thrive when other teachers and parents had given up on them.

Thousands of her students have gone on to successful careers as a result of her guidance. Her commitment and extra effort aided them in becoming who they are.

Dr. Bhuvana founded Bridges Learning Vidyalaya in Thanthai Periyar Nagar in 1998 to educate pupils suffering from dyslexia, ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder), autism, and other developmental disabilities.

The school educates children in Classes 1 through 12 and follows the Puducherry Board curriculum. Malin’s Intelligence Scale is used to assess each child’s IQ, which is then categorized into mild, moderate, and severe categories based on their capabilities.

More than 6,000 students have graduated from the school over the past 25 years, and many of them are now doctors, managers, and engineers employed by reputable businesses.
