Dipankar Das, a boy who’s also a young innovator from Andaman has come up with different types of innovations and made the lives of daily wage earners and farmers a little easier and convenient. Starting from inventing a solar pulse thresher for the farmers to a deep freeze device for the fishermen, he has done it all for the betterment of our society. Not just that he has also come up with a water carrier for women to lessen their burden.

Founder’s Background

Dipankar Das, an extremely talented innovator hailing from Andaman started making things out of waste ever since his childhood days. He was born in a family of daily wage earners who used to work day in and day out to make ends meet. This young boy has multiple innovations in his name. His journey began in his childhood days by twisting and turning different things.  He initially started with mainly making things out of waste.

Dipankar Das’s Initial days

Dipankar had seen his parents work hard to make sure he gets his required education. His parents were sharecroppers and had to travel 5 kilometers to get to work. At a very early age, he realized that his family was not financially stable so he took up Arts despite having an interest in Science. His dedication and honest love and interest in science are quite evident from his innovations. The fact that nothing has the power to stop you if you are passionate about it is well proven by him.

In his childhood days, his parents could not afford to buy toys for him so he made toys out of the mud and sold them to make some money and help his family. That’s how thoughtful Dipankar has been ever since his childhood days. He used to collect the thrown away toys from other well-off kids and explored and experimented with those and made something useful out of them. And this is how the innovator in him came out and he started exploring more.

His Multiple Innovations

During the harvest season, he saw his mother and sister struggling to harvest the pulses manually. They weren’t even in a situation to afford a threshing machine or channel electricity to the fields. On observing this struggle of his family, in the year 2015, Dipankar buckled up and invented a solar thresher that would save the time of the Indian farmers in threshing and the waste could also be used as a bio-manure.  The solar thresher can be used to thresh grams, horse grain, and pulses without the need for a single drop of fossil fuel.

Another innovation by him is the low-cost water carrier. During his childhood days, Dipankar saw his mother and other women in the community walk hundreds of meters carrying water on their heads and around their waist. So to lessen their workload, he came up with a pot carrier. He also made a wheeled trolley reducing their burden.

He didn’t stop there. He came up with an interactive panel for children that would help them learn new letters and words associated with them. This plan was introduced and put forward that learning is interactive which in turn increases the fun and willingness to learn more. Other than these 3 innovations, there are a few more to be focused on such as a low-cost paddy dryer, a color-coded thermometer, a device to collect mahua flowers from the ground, and multiple harvesters.
